Weddings in India have always been a humongous event. A typical Indian wedding is characterised by dramatic backgrounds, elaborate decor, tons of delicacies, dreamy outfits and a gala of events! A lot of planning goes into making the wedding a memorable experience not just for the bride and groom but also for the guests.
However, the magical moments come with an expense. These expenses are not just monetary, it’s an expense for the environment.

A sustainable wedding is the call of the hour! A number of new-age couples have started to advocate for sustainable choices and have incorporated it for their big-day too. Taking ideas from the famous actress, producer, model and social worker Dia Mirza’s wedding, here are a few tips for your eco-friendly wedding:

Opt for sustainable wedding clothing, the actress opted for a Benarasi Saree for her bridal look.
Choose a venue which is dear to your heart and has something attached to it, preferably outdoors, close to nature.
Make sure to use local flowers and vendors to reduce the carbon footprint, dismiss the use of plastic as much as possible and have plated foods to limit the wastage.
Reuse the decorative elements from each ceremony. The flowers used for decoration can be used again the next day as a rangoli.
You can opt for an intimate wedding for a more carefree and enjoyable experience.
Make sure to send out e-invites or use plantable biodegradable eco-paper or saplings as a token of your appreciation.
